The Name

What is a bothy?

A bothy is a simple shelter in the Scottish hills. No luxury, no agenda. Just a place to rest, recover and gather yourself before continuing on.

Bothy Sound carries that same intention. A place to lie down, breathe, soften and let go of the constant effort of holding everything together.

Meet Douglas

A musician, practitioner and deep listener.

I'm Douglas, a sound practitioner and musician based in Perthshire, Scotland. I've spent much of my life working with sound in different forms, from songwriting and performance to creating immersive sound journeys held in quiet, shared spaces.

What guides my work is not theory alone, but deep listening. To sound, to space, to people, and to the moment in the room. Every session is shaped by what is present, not by a fixed script.

Bothy Sound reflects how I live and work. Connected to the land, shaped by the seasons, and grounded in real human experience rather than trends.

How the sessions feel

Each session is shaped by three simple principles.

Presence before performance

Nothing is rushed, nothing is forced. Each session unfolds at its own pace, responding to what the room needs.

Sound as a landscape

Layers unfold gently, like weather moving through a valley. Gongs, bowls and voice blend into something you feel as much as hear.

Integration matters

Time to arrive, time to return, time to settle what has stirred. You won't be rushed back into the world.
